You can't beat this for good cleaning and easy on the pocket book.
Liquid Laundry Soap
4 cups water
1 Fels-Naptha bar of soap
1 cup Washing Soda
1/2 cup Borax
Essential oil
Grate the bare of Fels-Naptha and dissolve in 4 cups water over warm burner. Fill 5 gallon bucket half full with warm water and add Washing Soda and Borax. Stir until dissolved. Add dissolved Fels-Naptha and add warm water to fill remainder of bucket. Add essential oil for fragrance and stir every 15 to 30 minutes until thick. Use 1/4 cup for front load and 1/2 cup for top load machines.
Works great! I don't use essential oils because they are expensive. I like my clothes to smell clean not perfumed.

I've been washing my clothes this way ever since you told me about it and made me my first batch. I'm washing my clothes with this right now =) It works great!
